Savannah, Georgia Travel Guide: A City Full of Old School Charm and Romance

There is a running joke with my friends that everywhere I visit is “my favorite place ever”. Savannah, Georgia is nothing short of perfect in my mind and I think it really is my favorite place ever. I wanted to share with you a travel guide for Savannah, Georgia, so when you make your way to the city full of old school charm and romance, you will be prepared!

“Savannah is amazing with the town squares and the hanging moss and the french colonial houses. It’s brutally romantic.” ~ David Morrissey

I promise once you visit Savannah, you will be daydreaming of strolling through the streets, coffee (or cocktail, you can do that in Savannah) in hand, admiring the beauty, as the moss hanging from the trees waves in the breeze.

Where To Eat

Savannah is a city full of great food and drinks. The restaurants are spectacular and the bar scene is classy and impressive! Just so you know, you can take your drink to go! Grab a perfectly created cocktail and stroll the streets of Savannah…..That, right there my friends, is PERFECTION!

Local 11 Ten

Local 11ten was my favorite dining experience by far while in Savannah. If you have never done a Chef’s tasting, please do yourself a favor, step out of your comfort zone and try it! Our tasting at Local 11ten was superb! The restaurant is small so be sure to make reservations.

Noble Fare

While a bit on the quirky side, the food at Noble Fare doesn’t disappoint. The mushroom bisque, which let me be clear isn’t something I ever would order, but my husband did and OH MY GOSH!! UNBELIEVABLE!

Alligator Soul

Our experience at Alligator Soul was everything you want in a night out! Our dinner was fabulous and the service was spot on. Alligator Soul adds a modern spin on southern classics and it’s a one of a kind culinary experience! I mean who doesn’t want to try alligator and crab cakes? They offer food for the adventurous foodie but they also offer great options for those who aren’t as adventurous. The even offer a great option for vegetarians!

Peregrin @ Perry Lane

The Peregrin offers a swanky rooftop bar scene but without all the fuss! It’s the place to be! The cocktails are always flowing and absolutely delish. I might still dream about these tacos. I have tried to recreate them at home but nothing compares! It doesn’t matter if you are staying at Perry Lane or not, you will want to stop at Peregrin at least once while you are in Savannah! Try to make visit at night, because the city lights are magical!

Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market

The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market offers great food morning, noon, or night. We really enjoyed their breakfast. I love a good burger and their burger with bacon jam was OH SO YUMMY! We also indulged their meat and cheese plate…maybe more than once…but whose counting?!

What To Do

There are endless things to do in Savannah. In this travel guide for Savannah, Georgia, we included some of our favorite experiences!

  • Savannah Wildlife Refuge- We never miss a chance to drive through the Savannah Wildlife Refuge at Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive, unfortunately the drive is closed for renovations for a long time but be sure to check out the website as there are other areas of the refuge that can be explored.
  • River Street– River Street gives a touristy vibe, with souvenir shops and vendors. Don’t forget to check and see if they are hosting any festivals like the Savannah Food & Wine Festival, the Savannah Bacon Festival, the Savannah Craft Brew Festival as well as family-friendly events like the Blues Jazz and BBQ Festival and Christmas on the River. Every first Friday of the month, head to River Street to see fireworks light up the sky.
  • Trolley Tour– They offer a great hop on/hop off tour. It’s a great way to get an idea of the layout of the city. I would suggest doing the tour your first day. They also offer ghost tours, if that’s your thing!
  • Wormsloe Plantation– Is a must see and be sure to have your camera ready when you enter the gates. The road is lined with huge live oak trees for over a mile. It’s stunning. There are some great trails to walk and explore also.
