Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion’s never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness~Lamentations 3:22-23

Lamentations was written by Jeremiah, soon after the fall of Jerusalem. The people of Jerusalem had turned away from God. The city was full of sin and soon it was over taken by the Babylonians. The Babylonians burned the temple, the kings palace, and all of the major buildings in the city. The walls that provided protection for the city and it’s people were destroyed. When the Babylonians took their prisoners and left the city, all that remained was rubble.

God’s love is so great, we can’t begin to truly understand it. Thinking of what Jeremiah had been through makes this verse mean so much more. He watched as “God’s city” was destroyed and he was mourning those who turned away from God and he was left with nothing. Yet, he was still focused on God’s love. I don’t know how much love I would be feeling if I was looking around at my town and everything was destroyed. Jeremiah wasn’t asking where God was, he was focusing on his love, compassion, and faithfulness. I can only hope and pray to have that kind of strength when my life is in complete disarray.

I fail God all the time, we all do. Christianity isn’t meant for us to live our lives in guilt because of our failures, it’s meant for us to know and understand the love of God. It is meant for us to know that no matter how bad we mess up, God will always be there to love and forgive us. “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed….” You will not be destroyed. God has given you the gift of everlasting life. You may stumble, you may fall but if you reach out, God will help you up.

“His compassion’s never fail…” It’s hard to fully grasp God’s compassion for us. All of us have had someone fail us at one time. We know the hurt and pain that comes with it. How can it be that God’s compassion’s NEVER fail. These four words give me hope, for I know God will always be compassionate with me. It also makes me want to be more compassionate to others. If we all took time to show someone a bit of compassion imagine the changes we would see in ourselves, our children, our communities, and our world. Commit today to show someone compassion, maybe someone who others think doesn’t deserve it. You and I don’t deserve God’s compassion but he gives it to us anyways. Let his love shine through you to warm someone else’s  day.

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right? I have had many. There are days where compassion is really hard to find, where my words hurt others, where my temper gets the best of me, and where the only place I can find comfort is at the feet of Jesus. The best part is God’s compassion and understanding is new every morning. WOW! How often do we carry hurt, regret, and anger over into the next day. God is always giving us a new start. “Great is thy faithfulness…” Maybe you can be more faithful to God today. Show his love to someone, help the needy, forgive someone, pray.

God is faithful and loves you no matter what has happened in your life, no matter what you’ve done he will always welcome you into his arms.
