WELOME TO WANDERLUST READS HOSTED BY ROAD AND TABLE TRAVEL

Wanderlust Reads Bookclub is for those who love to travel and love to read. Books will be picked based on their setting in different travel destinations around the world. Each month members will vote on selected books set in different travel destinations. Genres will vary. Just like travel often takes us out of our comfort zone, reading new genres can do the same. The book that receives the most votes will be read over the course of a month and on 2nd Tuesday of every month through our facebook group you will be asked to post your review on the book. Also, virtual meetings and in-person meetings will be held periodically based on the feelings of the group! You can find Wanderlust Reads on facebook and Goodreads.

In our facebook group I will share posts on the destination, the themes that are mentioned in the book and before our meeting I’ll share some tasty cocktails, mocktails, and food inspired by the book. Head over right now and join our group on FACEBOOK.

Voting for FEBRUARY’S book selection is OPEN NOW on FACEBOOK. Voting Ends on JANUARY 23rd and the book selection will be announced on JANUARY 24TH.

Books Being Voted On For February

The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith

Setting: Alaska

Fiction

Greta has spent her life trying to prove her Dad wrong, but three months after mothers sudden death, and weeks before the launch of her high-stakes sophomore album, Greta has an onstage meltdown that goes viral. Attempting to outrun the humiliation and heartbreak, she reluctantly agrees to accompany her father on a week-long Alaskan cruise, the very one that her parents had booked to celebrate their fortieth anniversary.

This could be the Greta’s family’s last chance to heal old wounds and will prove to be a voyage of discovery for them, as well as for Ben Wilder, a historian also struggling with a major upheaval in his life. Ben is on board to lecture about Jack London’s The Call of the Wild, the adventure story Greta’s mother adored, and he captures Greta’s attention after her streak of dating hanger-ons. As Greta works to build up her confidence and heal, and Ben confronts his uncertain future, they must rely on one another to make sense of life’s difficult choices. In the end, Greta must make the most challenging decision of all: to listen to the song within her or make peace with those who love her.

Afternoons in Ithaka by Spiri Tsintziras

Setting: Greece

Nonfiction, Memoir, Food,

From the first heady taste of tomatoes on home-baked bread in her mother’s village in Petalidi, to sitting at a taverna some 30 years later in Ithaka with her young family, Spiri Tsintziras goes on a culinary, creative and spiritual journey that propels her back and forth between Europe and Australia. These evocative, funny and poignant stories explore how food and culture, language and music, and people and their stories help to create a sense of meaning and identity.

The Secret River by Kate Grenville

Setting: Australia

Historical Fiction

In 1806 William Thornhill, an illiterate English bargeman and a man of quick temper but deep compassion, steals a load of wood and, as a part of his lenient sentence, is deported, along with his beloved wife, Sal, to the New South Wales colony in what would become Australia. The Secret River is the tale of William and Sal’s deep love for their small, exotic corner of the new world, and William’s gradual realization that if he wants to make a home for his family, he must forcibly take the land from the people who came before him. Acclaimed around the world, The Secret River is a magnificent, transporting work of historical fiction.
